ARCHITECTURE & TECHNICAL CONSULTING

Know what you are buildingbefore you pay for it.

A senior second opinion before an expensive decision, or a clear diagnosis when a system is already hurting.

Some decisions are cheap to make and expensive to undo: which framework carries the next ten years of your product, whether the monolith should be split, whether the platform you are about to buy will still fit once you have twice the customers. Architecture & Technical Consulting is Experus applied to exactly those decisions, with a senior engineer who has built and operated systems on the same stack, not a slide deck from someone who has not.

If you run the business, you get an answer in plain language: what the risk is, what it will cost to fix, and what happens if you do nothing. If you run the technology, you get the working notes behind that answer: the code, database and infrastructure findings, the trade-offs considered, and a design your team can build against.

Every engagement ends in writing. Not because a document is the point, but because a recommendation you can read, challenge and hand to the next person is worth more than a good conversation nobody can repeat.

WHEN THIS FITS

When this is the right fit

  • Your platform has become business-critical and nobody has checked whether the foundations hold: response times creep up, every feature takes longer.
  • You are about to commit serious budget to a product, supplier or rebuild, and want an independent view before you sign.
  • You are acquiring a company or inheriting a codebase, and need to know what you are getting and where the surprises are.
  • Your in-house team has never run Spring Boot in Kubernetes or designed a multi-tenant model, and should not learn from an outage.
  • A decision is stuck: Kotlin or Java, shared or per-tenant schema, build or buy. You want a recommendation with reasons.
WHAT YOU GET

What you get

Architecture review, ranked by risk

A written report on your codebase, database and infrastructure. Every finding states what was found, why it matters and what it takes to fix, ranked by risk and effort so you can act on Monday.

Technical due diligence

Before you acquire, invest or take over: an audit of the code, data model, dependencies (including unsupported Java or Spring versions), deployment process and test coverage, as a report fit for a board or buyer.

Written target design

When the decision is to build or change something: a design covering domain boundaries, PostgreSQL data model, the API contract between front-end and backend, deployment shape and known risks. Estimates come with their assumptions attached.

Technology selection and proof of concept

A build-versus-buy or tool-selection assessment with options scored against your actual constraints, not a feature matrix. Where a decision is too expensive to get wrong on paper, a small throwaway proof of concept settles it.

Hands-on mentoring for your team

Pairing, code review and design sessions with your engineers on Java, Kotlin, Spring Boot and PostgreSQL practice: module boundaries, testing strategy, CI/CD and monitoring. The good habits stay after Experus leaves.

HOW IT WORKS

How it works

01

Brief

A conversation about the decision or the pain, and what good looks like. You receive a written scope with cost and timing.

02

Look

Read-only access to your repositories, database and cloud, plus interviews with the people who build and run the system. Nothing is changed.

03

Report

Written findings, ranked recommendations and, where relevant, a target design. Then a working session to argue with it and decide what happens next.

04

Follow through

Optional: a monthly advisory day, mentoring for your team, or delivery under a separate agreement. You are never obliged to have the reviewer build.

STACK

The stack behind it

Kotlin & Java

Spring Boot

PostgreSQL

React & TypeScript

Docker & Kubernetes

CI/CD

Monitoring & alerting

Hetzner, AWS, Azure & DigitalOcean

ENGAGEMENT

Typical engagement

A short, fixed-price review with a written report and a follow-up session to decide next steps, or a standing advisory day each month alongside your own team.

FAQ

Questions you might have

How is this priced?

Reviews and due-diligence audits are fixed price, agreed in writing before any work starts, so you know the cost before you commit. Ongoing advisory and mentoring are billed as a fixed number of days per month. If the scope grows during a review, you hear about it before the invoice does, never after.

Who owns the report, the design and any proof-of-concept code?

You do. The code lives in your repositories from the first commit; intellectual property in the delivered work transfers to you on payment. Reports and design documents are delivered in an editable format, and nothing is held back to make the follow-on work depend on Experus.

Do I have to hire Experus to build what the review recommends?

No. The review is written so that your own team, or any competent supplier, can act on it. Where a recommendation would favour Experus doing the work, the report says so openly and gives you the alternative. The review is written so that you can build it yourselves, and that is a perfectly good outcome.

What if the engineer is ill or on holiday partway through?

Every engagement has agreed dates in writing; if those cannot be met you are told immediately, with the choice to reschedule or to stop and pay only for what has been delivered. Work in progress lives in your repositories and your accounts from day one, so nothing is lost on a laptop. If the engineer on your project is unavailable for longer, a trusted specialist from the Experus network can step in, with your agreement.

How long does a review take?

It depends on the size of the system and the questions you need answered, which is why every review starts with a scoped brief. A focused review of a single application with one clear question is a smaller job than a full due-diligence audit across several systems. You get a date in the written scope, not a guess.

NEXT STEP

Get a straight answer before the expensive part

Describe the decision you are facing or the system that is hurting. You will hear back from the engineer who would do the review, with a few questions and an honest view on whether a review is what you need.
